Hank's Bar And Pizza Information

There’s something effortlessly welcoming about walking into Hank's Bar And Pizza, the kind of neighborhood spot that feels lived-in in the best way. Tucked into Tacoma’s North End, the location makes it a convenient stop whether you’re coming from downtown or just wandering the local streets looking for a relaxed bite. The vibe leans casual and a little gritty, with dim lighting, eclectic decor, and a bar that seems to have its own regular crowd. It’s not polished, but that’s exactly the appeal.

The menu centers around pizza, but it doesn’t stop there. You’ll find a mix of comfort food staples and bar favorites that pair well with a drink. The pizza itself has that satisfying balance of chewy crust and crisp edges, with toppings that feel thoughtfully chosen rather than overdone. One visit, the pepperoni had just the right amount of spice and curl, while another time a veggie-heavy option leaned fresh and hearty without getting soggy. It’s the kind of place where you can tell the kitchen knows its audience-simple, flavorful food done right.

Service here tends to match the atmosphere: laid-back but attentive when it counts. Bartenders are quick to recommend a local beer or mix up something straightforward, and even during busier hours, there’s a sense that the staff keeps things moving without rushing you out. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a while, whether you’re catching up with friends or just enjoying a solo meal at the bar.

What stands out most, based on both personal experience and the general tone of reviews, is how consistent the place feels. It doesn’t try to reinvent itself or chase trends. Instead, it delivers a reliable menu, a comfortable setting, and a sense of community that keeps people coming back. That said, if you’re expecting upscale dining or a highly curated menu, this probably isn’t the spot. It leans more toward a classic American bar-and-pizza joint, and it embraces that identity fully.

For Tacoma locals, Hank’s Bar And Pizza feels like one of those places you end up returning to without overthinking it. The combination of solid food, easygoing service, and a location that’s just off the main hustle makes it a dependable choice when you want something satisfying without the fuss.

What People's Say About Place

Got the French dip and wasn't disappointed. Went on a busy night and the staff were still super friendly and even offered my dog some bacon (which she loved). Just a heads up, when you want to place your food order, head to the bar, that's where you place both food and drink orders.

Very friendly staff! Tasty hand tossed pizza with really awesome choices! Great beer selection and cocktails. Every time we make the trip up here to Tacoma from Portland we make an effort to stop in. Love this place! Can be hard to find parking at busy times though so forewarning! (Street parking)

Hank's is legitimately my favorite bar and restaurant. I tell all of my friends and out-of-towners about it. Everyone I have ever taken there wants to go back because the food is really, really good, the drinks are strong, good and affordable and the general crowd is really nice. For example, we have a friend who happily makes the drive from downtown Seattle whenever we go. The bartenders and kitchen staff are always super friendly. They serve classic bar food, like pizza and wings, but the quality is higher than your average bar. Their tots with garlic aioli are a MUST. I am a classic pepperoni gal, but I recently had their Ballin' pizza and it was so delicious. They also have seasonal drink menus, and there's always something for everyone. We sit outside all year 'round because they have heaters for when it's cold. In the spring and summer when the grape vines start to come back, it's so pretty and cozy on the patio. They also have TVs outside for games and news, so it is a great place to go for a Hawks or Kraken game. I truly cannot say enough good things about this place. It is our go-to for girl's night, birthdays, long weekends, and just because. If you go at peak dinner time, you may be hard pressed to find a table if you have a large group because it is just such a good place. Locals love it. Parking can be slightly challenging if you get there during the dinner rush. If you don't mind a short walk, you can park down the hill.

Nice atmosphere and great neighborhood bar. Felt almost like Cheers. The drinks are great and the pizza was AMAZING! I love that on a cold day that they will let will have the fireplace going and if not they will allow you to turn it on. Having a great book or doing work on your lap top there on a slow day is great. And on the weekends when the night hits, great hangout spot. Seth and Paige are AMAZING bartenders! Definitely visit this place!!!

Was recommended this little neighborhood gem and they weren't wrong. We went around 6pm on a Friday night and they were already pretty slammed. We found seating at a high-top. Come knowing that it will be loud (not a problem for us). Order food/drinks at bar (wish they has more of a hazy selection but they had one so I was happy). Food was delicious (it's bar food, but good bar food)! Vibe was great - made a friend, a guy who was there alone and chatted with us for a bit. Definitely adding this to our list of places to return.

I’ve been going to Hank’s for years. It has been the quintessential neighborhood bar, but has been elevated with a design that mimics an Italian mob boss’ study. Great food. Great staff. Great booze. Plus the fireplaces are delightful year around. Monday’s are Grilled CHZ! One of the best tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches around!

How was happy with the experience all the way around. The food was absolutely delicious, I didn't have to wait long for my drink, and the atmosphere here was absolutely wonderful. It's the type of place you can get a slice of pizza, have a drink and talk to the stranger next to you. This is a place where friends are made and meet.

I've been here a few times now and it has been very good all visits. Very chill spot, great bartenders, and friendly regulars. The pizza is great as well as the french dip, mozzarella flatbread, and the "Big Cheese" Will be back again!
